Special Needs Dog Struggled to Make Friends Until One Small Dog Changed Everything
This dog was feeling left out at the dog park until something wonderful happened. Maddie is 13 years old and a very special dog in more ways than one. As her parents @the.barrows explain on TikTok, “Maddie was born with a brainstem injury. She has an uneven gate, visual impairment and is a bit socially awkward.”
Recently, when they went to visit the dog park, a group of big dogs was playing while Maddie watched on. She kept trying to join in, but the pack wasn’t signaling she was welcome. Her family could tell she wanted to play and were sad that none of the dogs wanted her to join in—until a small pup turned things around. The text overlaid on the video reads, “When your special needs dog has trouble making friends and a small dog comes to include her in on the fun.”

The pair began to run around and have the most adorable time together. One viewer exclaimed, “The parent of the small dog raised them right.” Another observed, “At the beginning of the video you can see the little one trying to keep up with the bigger ones but couldn’t either.”
“All it takes is one buddy to have a good time,” her parents wrote. Just like Maddie’s parents said—one friend can turn your day around!
Maddie’s parents say that her condition makes her uncoordinated and gives her an unusual gait. She also gets easily distracted. But Maddie is all joy and happiness no matter what she’s doing.
