Photographer’s Breathtaking Images Of Penguins Capture The Majesty of Antarctica
When photographer Drew Doggett ventured to the Antarctic Peninsula he was intent with capturing the frozen continent’s breathtaking beauty in a series he is calling Frontier: Land of Ice.

The award-winning photographer was immediately struck by the challenging yet serene landscapes he visited, which included the South Georgia Islands, Antarctica and the largest iceberg on Earth, A23A. Among the dreamlike icebergs and barren shores, penguins and seals have made their home.

“The greatest challenge of creating this series was capturing the emotion of time spent around the Antarctic Peninsula,” Doggett says.

“Beyond the awe and magnificence inspired by its sublime beauty, there is a tangible serenity—a near-physical meditative rhythm unique to this remote world,” he continues.

Doggett adds, “I sought to bring that feeling to life through cinematic scenes of the region’s curious wildlife, vast sea, and sculpted ice.”

In announcing this photographic series, Doggett highlighted some key statistics about the region he visited. He traveled 2,800 nautical miles, traversed A23A—estimated to weigh one trillion tons—braved an average temperature of -30 degrees Fahrenheit (-34C), and observed many of the estimated 800,000 king penguins living on South Georgia Island.

Doggett’s photos capture the primal wilderness and its seemingly endless expanse of ocean, rock, and ice. Yet among the vast and towering blocks of ice at the world’s southernmost edge, animals dot the shores and icy slopes, carrying on their lives.
