Dog Overfed By Tourists Finds His Footing After Heartwarming Rescue
Charlie, a dog living on the island of Koh Tao in Thailand, was spoiled with food to the point where it endangered his life.
The island is popular with tourists, and they frequently overfed Charlie. Every day, he was given fried chicken, pork, and other treats, causing him to gain so much weight that he could barely walk or stand up on his own.
Although Charlie had a family, Lara — who runs Koh Koh Pups Dog Rescue — couldn’t intervene at first since she was a foreigner. But when she saw Charlie sitting in the middle of the road with traffic swerving around him, she knew she had to try and she successfully convinced Charlie’s owners to surrender him.
Watch the video below to see how Charlie’s weight loss journey is going.

At Koh Koh Pups, Charlie is now on a strict diet to help him lose weight. He originally weighed 84 pounds (38 kg), but thanks to dedicated care and treatment, he’s already lost 22 pounds (10 kg) in just four months.
In addition to losing the pounds, Charlie recently got a groom and Lara noted afterwards that he has a “spring in his step.” She wrote on Instagram, “He’s a changed man and looking very smart we think.”
Lara added that all Charlie really wants is attention and belly rubs. Visit the Koh Koh Pups website to learn more about how to support them.
Pupdate:
A year on, Charlie can run on the beach on his own. “Just over a year ago, Charlie couldn’t walk without help. Standing up was a struggle. Today? He’s 16kg lighter, running, playing, and living the life he always deserved. Proof that with the right care, patience, and love everything can change. Keep going!”
