Photographer Captures Heartwarming Moment Between Polar Bear Mom and Cub

Wildlife photographer Drew Hamilton recently captured an adorable moment between a polar bear mom and her cub that has gone viral. In the sweet scene, the cub is crawling on top of his mom and giving her kisses. Hamilton took the video at Wapusk National Park in Manitoba, Canada recently in what was his second visit.

Hamilton said he was fortunate enough to see the pair when they had just come out of their den and before they headed out onto the sea ice. He used the hash-tag #momlife as a nod to all the hardworking moms out there, human and animal.

Hamilton has been photographing bears for decades and loves filming them. He said for the video of the polar bears he was a safe distance away to allow the bears to not feel threatened and act naturally. He says that it’s a short window of time when the polar cubs are so small and so cute and called the moment something “magical.” The cub is only around three months old. They are usually born in December and then come out of their dens in February or March.

Hamilton is based out of Churchill and does photography tours. Below are some more of his beautiful bear photographs from his Instagram page.

Here is the photo of the sunset and the polar bear that he mentions in the news interview.

Drew had a viral video some years ago when he was sitting in his camping chair when a big brown bear walked right up to him and calmly took a seat next to him. You can watch that here.
