Tiny Stray Pekingese Rescued After Weeks On The Run
A small stray Pekingese rescued from the streets has a brand-new life thanks to the kind people who saved him. Hannah Hueston, an Animal Control Officer with the Vermilion County Animal Shelter in Danville, Illinois, went out to rescue the little dog, who had been on the run for three weeks. The pup, later named Toad, was very skittish and wouldn’t let anyone get close, so rescuers decided to set a trap.

Thankfully, they managed to catch him. When they brought him back to the shelter, they realized they had to shave off his fur. He was extremely matted and covered in burrs and dirt. After removing his tangled coat, they gave him a bath to get rid of the fleas, dressed him in a sweater, and tucked him into bed. The poor fellow was so exhausted that he fell asleep right away.

You don’t usually see them homeless,” wrote one viewer. “He’s definitely so happy now. Ugh his reaction at the end,” said another. “I cannot believe people would do this. It shatters my heart.”
Hueston shared a heartwarming update on Toad shortly after his rescue. Within days, Toad warmed up to all the attention he was getting. The shelter wrote, “He loves his head scratched and is always wagging his tail.” It didn’t take long for Toad to find a forever family.
