People In Toronto Make Sidewalk Memorial For Deceased Raccoon Awaiting City’s Pick Up

Residents in a Toronto neighborhood paid their respects to a fallen raccoon, who lay on a city sidewalk for more than 12 hours before the city’s animal services came and picked him up. The dead animal had been reported to the city’s administration in the morning of July 9, 2015, but it wasn’t until later in the evening that he was taken away. By that time, the raccoon had trended on Twitter (#deadraccoonto) and a memorial shrine had been erected with flowers, photos, candles and cards around his body.

A man in Toronto reported a dead raccoon on the sidewalk to the city at 9am on Thursday.
