Rookie Police Officer Buys A Car Seat For Father Down On His Luck

When LaVonte Dell was pulled over by Westland police officer Joshua Scaglione, his first thought was “oh no”. He thought it might be because of his tinted car windows and he was right. But when Office Scaglione noticed Lavonte’s 3-year-old daughter, Lauren, was in the backseat without a car seat, he asked the father what was going on.

LaVonte teared up a little bit explaining he’s been going through “tough times” and was expecting the worst when Scaglione asked him to get out of the vehicle. But instead, the officer wanted to know more.

“I related to the fact that I’ve been in that situation before,” Scaglione told Detroit’s WXYZ. “I said to myself this is the perfect opportunity for me to help this guy.”

That’s when he told LaVonte to follow him to Walmart where he opened his wallet and bought a car seat for Lauren.

“I thank him from the bottom of my heart,” said LaVonte. Afterwards he realized he had forgotten to get Scaglione’s name, so he shared his story on Facebook as way of thanks.

The post has since gone viral and although Scaglione originally wished to remain anonymous and wasn’t looking for thanks or praise, he’s gotten tons of both since his act of kindness was revealed.

Watch the two men relate their story and please share it to encourage others to pay it forward!
