Some Companies Now Allowing Pet Bereavement Time To Employees

Losing a pet can be as devastating as the loss of a human loved one, so having time to get over the initial shock of their death and having time to grieve is something everyone can appreciate.

That’s why the news that some companies are beginning to provide pet bereavement days to their employees is so interesting. Although the time is by no means mandatory by law, many pet-friendly companies are recognizing that some pet owners need a bit of time to get over the loss of a dog or cat and are giving them a few days off to grieve and find some closure.

In the video below, CBS Miami reports what a few companies are doing and what it has meant to the employees who have been given the time off to grieve.

Of course, there is some questions as how to define these programs. For example, if it’s okay to allow time off for the death of a dog or a cat, what about time for the loss of a fish or a reptile? Despite these questions, pet bereavement days are something that seems to be catching on, at least within a few pet-focused businesses.

What do you think of what these businesses are doing? Do you think more companies should consider similar programs? Share this news with the pet parents you know.
