19 Orphaned Foals Play Together In Big Paddock For The First Time

A nurse mare foal is a foal that was born so that its mother will produce milk. The mother is then sent off to nurse a “more valuable” baby horse and the nurse mare foals are “disposed of” as they are essentially a byproduct of the industry. But Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio does not believe the orphaned foals are simply disposable products, and they rescue the baby horses so that they can find them homes.

The 19 nurse mare foals in the video were rescued in the 2010 season and they are being released into a big paddock for the first time where they can run and play!

Like any group of youngsters, they’re full of energy! They’ve also got a watchful guardian, an attentive German Shepherd who watches their every move.

Although the foals in this video are a few years old now, Last Chance Corral continues to rescue nurse mare foals every year and help find them loving homes.
