Springer Spaniel Who Lived In A Small Cage For Years Adopted By Loving Family

Meet Nelson. When the Springer Spaniel was dropped at a shelter in the Netherlands, his previous owners told them to put him down if no one took her. The dog had lived outside in a small cage for 2.5 years. He had a little “house” outside in a small garden where he slept and watched his owners.

When Neil’s mom, Frieda, read about Nelson’s plight, she went to visit him.

“He was in the shelter for about 5 days. They didn’t have a picture because he wasn’t groomed yet,” says Neil. “But my mother was very alert and they just went to look at him and were ‘sold’ immediately.”

Neil shared these photos of Nelson on his first days home with Reshareworthy.com.

It’s Nelson’s freedom ride! His first car ride with his new family.

“Everything has to be sniffed.”

Nelson’s first night home he wouldn’t stop trembling and wanting to go outside. He’s not potty-trained and needs some behavioral training.

But his new family knows it it is all part of the process to get him accustomed to living at his new home. They plan on securing their backyard so he will be free to roam.

It looks like he’s already enjoying the yard and playing a game of fetch!

“Every good dog deserves a bone.”

“Exhausted from all the new experiences.” And no doubt from all the love and attention he is getting. Neil says that when they sit on the couch “he hops on our laps”, making himself right at home!
