Millionaire Goes Broke Saving Stray Dogs From Slaughterhouse

When his dog went missing, Wang Yan began a desperate search for him and ended up at a slaughterhouse in his town where he spent a week hoping to find his beloved pet. What the millionaire saw there would change his life.

Yan did not find his dog, but his life was about to radically change. After seeing what was happening to thousands of dogs at the slaughterhouse, Yan decided to use his wealth to help the dogs destined for slaughter. This was back in 2012 when Yan, 29, was a millionaire.

Yan had a net worth of several million yuan (a million yuan is approximately $156,000 USD) and built a massive shelter to house the dogs he rescues. He has saved over 2,000 since then. But his kind-hearted deeds have come at a cost, and he has gone into debt saving the dogs.

But Yan is not letting his problems get in the way of helping the few hundred dogs he currently has in his care. He does not accept cash donations, but instead hopes to receive donations of food and other supplies for the dogs.

“Right now, we only have 215 dogs, the most we’ve had at one time is 1,000, many of them have been adopted” Yan has said, according to Sina New.

Yan says he will continue with his rescue work until all of his strays find loving homes.
