Following him to the kitchen, the family quickly realized why. A part inside their dishwasher had fallen onto the heating element and was melting, filling the house with a dangerous, chemical smell.

Because of Trident’s persistence, they were able to stop the dishwasher before the situation turned into something far worse.

The four-year-old cat is now being hailed as a hero for his sharp instincts—waking his family in time and preventing a potentially serious house fire. His story quickly spread online, with many recognizing him as the kind of protector every home hopes to have.

Trident’s bravery hasn’t gone unnoticed at home, either. His family honored him with a framed photo that reads: “Not all heroes wear capes.”

While Alana’s husband may not be convinced that Trident saved their lives, viewers gave Trident praise.
