Grateful Dog Kisses Firefighter Who Saved Him From Flood

A man and his dog found themselves in a precarious position after they became trapped under a bridge after heavy rain flooded McKinney, Texas. Rescuers found the man chest deep in flood waters with a large dog on his shoulders. He was struggling to keep his dog, Duke, above the water under the Eldorado Pkwy Bridge near S. College Street.

Photographer Michael O’Keefe was on the scene to take shots of the dramatic rescue.

Using a ladder, truck crews lowered a firefighter down and the pair were hoisted to safety. Everyone was relieved when they got onto dry land, especially Duke.

“He’s a great dog, He did well. He sure was happy to be on land,” said O’Keefe, from First Response Photography. “His feet hit the ground and he almost instantly went towards the firefighter that had saved him, jumped all over him, licked all over him. It was real touching to watch.”

Here’s video O’Keefe took of the dog and man safely arriving back on land.

And below is a newscast about the rescue. Both the man and his dog appeared to be okay after their watery ordeal.
