9-year-old Elysia Laub was playing in her family’s backyard in rural Lowell, Indiana, when she heard some crying coming from the grass near the road by their home. At first she thought it was one of their pigs, but she was in for a huge shock. When she went to investigate she saw some pink legs kicking and discovered a newborn baby wrapped in a towel!
“It just freaked me out, I didn’t know what it was,” Elysia told CBS 2 News. She added, “It’s not ordinary to find a little baby in your yard.”
She called for her mom who came running and took the baby inside until officers and medics arrived. The Caucasian baby with brownish-blonde hair is in good health considering she was likely outside for several hours in the sun, and maybe even overnight.
Authorities have found the baby a foster home and are now searching for the newborn’s mother. They call Elysia the baby’s guardian angel and said the infant was lucky that Elysia found her when she did.
As for Elysia, she knows she found the baby girl with some divine help. “Somebody helped me,” Laub said. “God.”
