Firefighter Comforts Injured Boy With “Happy Feet” After Car Crash

Several residents and first responders came to help the victims of a terrible car crash on Saturday in D’Iberville, Mississippi. The actions of D’Iberville firefighter Casey Lessard has caught the attention of the media after he was seen comforting an injured child.

The boy and his family were involved in the single car crash. Their SUV flipped several times and the mother and her five children (ages 1 to 7) were injured. The mom and three of her children were ejected from the vehicle. Two of the children remained in their car seats.

Thinking of what to do, Lessard pulled out his smartphone and began playing the animated film “Happy Feet” to comfort the 4-year-old boy, who was strapped to a gurney. Fire Captain Darren Peterson told the the Sun Herald that firefighters are trained to do everything they can to calm and comfort children involved in terrible situations. “The kids…we do whatever we can to calm them down,” he said. “The video calmed him down instantly.”

Lessard later learned that the boy is his friend’s future stepson. The boy was released from hospital on Monday but two of this siblings involved in the crash are in critical condition. Their mother broke several bones including her spine, but managed to walk, according to a family fundraising page.

Sometimes it is the little things can help comfort people in the worst of circumstances. Here is hoping everyone in the family makes a full recovery.
