Father Takes Drastic Action To Save His Son’s Life

When doctors told George Pickering II that his son was brain dead, and that they would be removing him from life support, George thought the hospital was moving too fast. What followed was a dangerous and desperate plea from a father to give his son a few more hours to see if he would recover.

Pickering grabbed a gun and sat next to his son’s hospital bed and began a tense stand-off with police. Hospital staff told police that George had been inebriated and belligerent earlier in the day and that he had threatened them, which did not help the situation. But George said he felt hopeless and wanted to give his son more time.

Pickering told KPRC that his son had a history of seizures but had a serious stroke in January, but that he did not believe his son was “brain dead” like doctors thought. Pickering believed that he just needed an additional three or four hours to know for sure if his son was truly gone.

But it turns out, the father was right. His son, George Pickering III, woke up and pulled through!

Afterwards, George was jailed and faced charges for assault with a deadly weapon. Fortunately, one charge was dismissed and the time for the other charge was deemed served because of jail time after the incident. Father and son are home and together again. It’s something that George Pickering III says is only possible because of his father’s actions.

“There was a law broken, but it was broken for all the right reasons. I’m here now because of it,” son George said of his father’s actions. “It was love, it was love.”
