Airline Honors Fallen Soldier And His Canine Partner

A group of Delta Airline employees does something special to honor fallen soldiers returning home. The group of volunteers call themselves the Delta Honor Guard and they meet on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to greet the arrival of a plane carrying the remains of military veterans.

Before the flight arrives, the group tries to figure out the deceased’s branch of service and where he or she came from. When the plane arrives, the volunteers line on the tarmac holding the flags (one for each branch of service and the American flag). A prayer is read and the casket is then transferred to a special flag-painted cart. Afterwards, a special Delta Honor Guard coin is given to the next of kin. In this video, you’ll notice a smaller casket emerges from the plane after the soldier’s. This was the soldier’s K9 partner. Other airports and airlines also have Honor Guards of their own that carry out similar ceremonies.

This is such a respectful way to pay tribute to the fallen.
