Dog Blown Out To Sea In Inflatable Kayak Rescued Just In Time By Tour Boat Operator
What started as a routine boat tour quickly became a race against time to save a dog lost at sea.
Bruce, a German Shepherd, was blown kilometres off the Northumberland coast after strong winds carried the inflatable kayak he was riding in farther and farther from shore. As hope began to fade, skipper Jimmy Reid and crewman Aaron Fordy of Serenity Farne Islands Boat Tours heard a Coastguard alert and immediately joined the search.
After searching the open water, Aaron finally spotted the kayak in the distance. But when they pulled alongside, there was no sign of Bruce. For a terrifying moment, they feared the worst.
Then suddenly, a head appeared from inside the kayak.
Bruce was alive!

The rescue wasn’t over yet. As the crew reached for him, Bruce slipped free and fell back into the sea. Without hesitation, Aaron lunged over the side and grabbed the dog by the scruff of his neck while Jimmy held onto Aaron’s leg to keep him from going overboard. Together, they managed to pull Bruce safely aboard.

Cold, soaked, and trembling, Bruce was wrapped in towels and cared for by the crew. Before long, his tail was wagging again.

The best part came when they returned to harbor and watched Bruce reunite with his relieved family. Thanks to the quick thinking and determination of two boatmen who refused to give up, Bruce is now home safe and sound.
Serenity Farne Islands Boat Tours later wrote, “A huge well done to Jimmy and Aaron for their incredible teamwork, quick thinking and determination.”
