Boy Who Grew Hair Out For Cancer Patients Diagnosed With Stage 4 Disease

Vinny Desautels was only 5 years old when he grew out his hair for two straight years in order to help children with cancer. He did it because he wanted to “help people so they don’t have to go to the doctors to fight cancer”.

For two years he endured teasing and was often mistaken for a girl, but Vinny took it all in stride because he was on a mission. At 7-years-old, he ended up donating 13 inches of hair to “wigs for kids with cancer”! It was a moment he was extremely proud of and he was happy to help a child in need. But now the 2nd grader needs help himself. In a heartbreaking twist of fate, Vinny himself has been diagnosed with cancer.

He was diagnosed with the very rare and aggressive type of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma after his right eye began to swell up and he got a bump on his hip. His father, Jason, said that Vinny has stage four of the aggressive cancer. “Basically what they found is that he has a significant growth on his hip, and in the bone around the eye, and behind the nose and on the cheek on the right side.”

This sweet boy now needs to focus his determination into fighting the disease himself. Vinny’s grandparents have started a GoFundMe account to help their grandson, who they describe as “tender-hearted and so loving” by raising funds to cover treatment, travel expenses and so on.

Here’s the news story FOX 29 recently did where they talk to Vinny and his family.

We’re sending positive thoughts to Vinny and his family during this difficult time.
