A kindergarten teacher found a 4-year-old hiding a stray puppy in her backpack in southwest China and filmed what happened when she interviewed the young girl in her office. Apparently, the 4-year-old girl Qi Qi found the stray puppy near her school and hid it in her backpack to sneak him back home after school. But the puppy’s barks gave her away.

The little girl tearfully explains that the pup “will not hurt people” when asked why she had the dog. “I told her to come to my office,” the teacher said when interviewed by a news channel. “She kept telling me the dog wouldn’t bite people. She told me not to throw it away.”

The video was taken at a school in Sichuan, and the short 23-second clip below shows the endearing encounter. But Qi Qi’s compassion towards the puppy must have persuaded her family, because she and her twin sister get to keep the puppy and he has officially become her pet.
