Have you seen a purple parking spot in your neighborhood? The unusually colored parking spaces have begun appearing all around the United States and are especially reserved for wounded veterans.
The project is an initiative of The Wounded Warriors Family Support and they are working with city authorities and local businesses to set up the spaces.
The color purple is chosen in direct reference to The Purple Heart medal; there are an estimated 1.8 million Purple Heart recipients since its inception in 1932.
So far, the project has caught on in Ohio, but I imagine that they will begin appearing in other states when word gets out.
