Compassionate Nurse Singing Dying Patient’s Favorite Song Touches Millions Of Lives

A Nashville nurse is being called “an angel” after a video of her singing to a cancer patient went viral on social media. Nurse Olivia Neufelder was asked to comfort Margaret Smith by singing her favorite song, Dancing in the Sky by Dani and Lizzy.

Margaret, 63, had been battling liver cancer for the past year and she had just learned that she was too weak to survive a transplant.

The video taken at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, was shot by Margaret’s best friend, Crystal Hamilton Roberts. In a Facebook post Crystal wrote of Olivia, “She would sing this to Margaret whenever Margaret asked her. Never would Olivia ever say give me a minute, I would but I don’t have time.” She added that Olivia “is the best nurse ever…The best example of what a nurse should be.”

Both Olivia and Margaret are visibly emotional as the nurse sings. At one point Olivia wipes away her own tears and encourages Margaret to smile and sing along to the chorus: “I hope you’re dancing in the sky…And I hope you’re singing in the angel’s choir.”

Margaret passed away two days later and it was her wish that the song play at her funeral. The family wanted to thank Olivia for her compassion and care. Margaret leaves behind a daughter and a son in their early 20’s. A gofundme account has been set up by the family to help with expenses.
