Stacee Gomez got a terrible shock when she was visiting her father and spotted his dog Boomer with an arrow protruding from his head. Just moments before, Stacee noticed Boomer playing happily in the yard of their Devine, Texas home. Soon after she heard her parents’ other dog Lola barking in a panic.
That’s when she saw Boomer through the window on the porch.
“I panicked and screamed. Then my dad just kind of came running and I just told him, ‘Dad he has an arrow in his head!’,” Stacee told KENS5 News.
The family immediately called the sheriff’s office and then drove Boomer to the animal hospital. The vet told them that Boomer was very lucky as the arrow had ricocheted off his skull and gone straight through to the other side. It had, however, fractured his orbital bone and nasal cavity.
“Had it pierced his skull it probably would have killed him instantly,” said Stacee.
Surgery removed the arrow but Boomer has a long recovery ahead of him. He will also have to retire from hunting because of the damage to his nose. Boomer was a Christmas gift from Stacee and her siblings to her father.
The Medina County Sheriff is now investigating and plans on reviewing the arrow for evidence. Further information on the investigation is not currently available.
The family opened a GoFundMe online to raise money for Boomer’s medical bills. She updated everyone that “Boomer is back home recovering.”
Stacee later commented on Facebook, “On behalf of my family, we would like to thank everyone for all of your support, prayers, donations, and outpouring of love from all of you. Boomer is home and resting. He’s adjusting to his cone (he’s not a fan lol). He’s been so strong through this whole ordeal. And we are AMAZED that he was able to Come home and start his recovery.”
“We did not expect this to blow up the way that it did but we are so glad to let you know that it helped us to start an investigation to bring to light the person that did this to Boomer and to cover ALL of Boomers medical bills,” she continued. “We can’t thank you guys enough.”
