Big-Hearted Police Officer Becomes Dad To ‘Unadoptable’ Foster Child

After the Sandy Hook school shootings a few years ago, a South Carolina school district established a program that has school resource police officers regularly visiting with the children. Master Deputy Mike Gibson started working at the school’s child development centre during his off hours and he soon became the school’s full-time resource officer.

It was while spending time with the students that he met one child with whom he developed a special bond with. The boy had a family history of abuse, but something in the boy reached out to Gibson. When the boy first met Gibson, he called him Officer Mike and not long after called him “Officer Dad”. “He was searching. He was definitely a child in need,” Gibson told WYFF. “He was in need of parents, that’s what he wanted.”

Gibson thought he and his wife could help the boy, who had been in and out of at least eight different foster homes and had been labelled “unadoptable” by social workers. So, he and his wife decided to file for adoption. They went through the rigorous process to be approved as the boy’s legal guardians and now the boy can now officially call Gibson simply “dad”.

It takes special parents to open up their home to a needy child and Gibson and his wife are certainly that. Share this wonderful story with your friends and family!

Officer Gibson’s heartwarming actions remind me of another kind-hearted cop, who adopted two troubled brothers. Read more here.
