Stay calm. That’s what Britton Hayes from Seattle was told after a cheetah jumped into the backseat of the jeep he was in while on Safari in Tanzania. He and his uncle, who was also in the car and shot the video, were enjoying a guided tour when three cheetahs targeted their land cruiser.
One jumped on the hood, and another crawled inside the vehicle for a look around.
Hayes says his guide told him to avoid eye contact and keep calm to avoid startling the cheetah.
Thankfully, the cheetah seemed more interested in the interior of the car than the humans in it and after chewing the upholstery he left.
“Honestly, it was probably one of the scariest moments of my life while it was happening,” Hayes said afterwards. But he credits his tour guides with helping him stay calm.
Cheetahs can be affectionate and playful with humans if they are familiar with them, but these cheetahs were wild and on the hunt.
