Little Boy Holds Special Vigil On Normandy Beach In Memory Of Fallen Soldiers

In June 2014, an 11-year-old boy visited Normandy, France for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. As part of the boy’s personal remembrance project called “Project Vigil”, he spent four days in the American Cemetery, teaching visitors about three paratroopers buried there. Then on June 6, he took his 48 star WWII era American flag down to Omaha beach and planted his homemade flagpole firmly in the sand.

Staring out at the ocean, the little boy held the flag steady and saluted all the fallen soldiers, who died 70 years earlier in the fight against fascism. While holding his salute for over 90 minutes, he was visited by tourists, children and veterans who paid their respects alongside him. And when he was joined by a lone trumpeter (at 5:00), I got chills.

Please share this boy’s amazing tribute to the fallen soldiers who fought and died on D-Day in remembrance of the sacrifice they made for our freedom!
