Beaver Herds Curious Cattle In The Pasture

Ranchers Adrienne Ivey and her husband knew something strange was going on when they spotted 150 of their heifers crowded together in one of their pastures. They went to investigate and were surprised to see the herd of cattle were following a beaver that had wandered into the field.

The video they filmed of their curious cows following the animal on their ranch in Saskatchewan, Canada, is now going viral.

Ivey suspects the beaver was looking for a new place to build a beaver lodge when he caught the attention of the cattle. “There was about a three-foot space around him, Ivey told CBC News. “They didn’t want to get closer than that.”

Ivey says heifers are naturally curious, more so than the average bovine. “They’re a curious bunch,” she said. “They’re kind of like teenagers. And I think they were following this thing around because they couldn’t figure out what the heck it was.”

She added, they “were enchanted by the cute little guy and followed him everywhere!”

The couple says beavers are a regular sight on their ranch and travel through the sloughs and canals throughout their property. She also described the incident as “a very Canadian moment on our Canadian ranch.”
