Elderly Woman’s Reaction To Police Dog Puppy Makes Nurses Cry

When Sergeant Tony Marshall went to visit the Star and Garter nursing home in London he was there to talk about scams and crime prevention. A serious topic, but the visit was lightened because he also brought along five police dogs with him. The police dogs, including 11-week-old Daisy, stole the hearts of residents and one elderly woman in particular.

Muriel Hiorns was unable to come downstairs for the talk, so Marshall brought Daisy to visit her.

“…sadly some residents were unable to come downstairs due to their conditions/abilities. Sgt Marshall and the dog handler didn’t want them to miss out and decided to take 11 week old puppy Daisy to them,” the Kingston Police explained on its Facebook page.

“Muriel has been at the Star & Garter for a few months now and the nurses say she is normally very quiet and doesn’t show much emotion,” the Kingston Police said. “However when Daisy was placed on her lap in bed she lit up and gave us a big smile!”

“This sort of reaction is so unusual for Muriel that it caused her nurse to cry.”

Daisy shows how much joy animals can bring to people. The visit also made a lasting impression on the Sergeant. “I was shocked to see Muriel’s reaction and I would like to thank the Star & Garter for having me, it was a great opportunity and something I will remember for the rest of my life,” Sergeant Marshall said.

What Daisy did to lift the residents spirits reminds me of Mia the cat, who spreads cheer to everyone at the nursing home where she lives.
