Dog Trapped 48 Hours In Floodwaters in Kabul River Rescued
A dog spent 48 hours trapped in rising floodwaters in Kabul, Afghanistan, during devastating storms that have left widespread destruction across the region.
As others walked past, one man made a different choice. Without hesitation, he waded into the fast-moving water and fought his way toward the stranded animal.
Step by step, he reached the frightened dog and carefully guided her through the current, slowly leading her toward safer, shallower ground where they were finally able to make it out together.
The rescue came amid severe flooding across Afghanistan that has claimed more than 99 lives, injured over 150 people, and destroyed thousands of homes across more than 20 provinces, including Kabul.
Kabul Small Animal Rescue, who rescues dogs in the area, says they were notified about the dog in the river and noted, “We have gotten a ton of messages about a TikTok video showing a dog supposedly stuck in the Kabul River. Our team went out last night and wasn’t able to find any animals in the river. Today they went out and were able to move some feral dogs out of the river where they’d been stranded on high banks, they were were able to see that none were injured, and they brought in one puppy to the clinic.”
It appears the dog was saved prior to the rescue being notified.
In the middle of tragedy, one act of courage brought a small moment of hope.
