Widower Builds Special Bridge As Tribute To Wife He Lost To Breast Cancer

Larry Payne and his wife Pat were married for over 50 years and shared a wonderful life together. When Pat recently died from breast cancer, Larry was devastated but he wanted to do something to honor her and decided to build a bridge over a small creek in the local cemetery. He put his “heart and soul into it” and added one feature that’s caught a few people off guard – a pink roof.

“Had a lady the other day say, ‘Well I don’t like the pink,’” Larry told KHQA. “And I said, ‘Well, maybe you just don’t understand that pink is the cancer is what that means.’”

Larry thinks his wife would have liked it too. “You know she’s smiling. I know she’s smiling. And she had one of the prettiest smiles…that’s what I said. I love my wife and there’s nobody that loves anybody anymore than I do her,” Larry said.

Pat and Larry’s daughter Christine is proud of her father’s “awesome tribute”. What a simple but touching gesture for the love of his life.

Share Larry and Pat’s bridge with your friends and family.
