Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Helps Save Abandoned And Tortured Puppy Who Was Named After Him

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson won dog lovers hearts over the summer recently when he showed off his softer side as a new pet parent. Now he’s won even more dog lovers’ hearts by helping an abused dog who was named after him.

Dwayne Johnson the puppy was left at a Los Angeles shelter a few years ago with a metal wire wrapped around his mouth. The shelter workers had to use bolt cutters to remove the thick wire.

After it was removed, Dwayne got 17 stitches and pulled through like a champ. That’s when his rescuers at Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue discovered he has a bigger fight ahead of him. The 4-month-old puppy has a grade 6 heart murmur (grade 6 is the highest grade).

With such a serious heart condition Dwayne needs peace and quiet, minimal exercise and can’t be left in a kennel. The stress could cause him a heart attack, according to Dwayne’s GoFundMe page. He also needs a life-saving surgical procedure that could easily fix the problem. But the rescue needed to raise $5000 to cover the surgical costs.

That’s where the human Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson came to the rescue. Actress Michelle Trachtenberg tweeted about the sick puppy and tagged the Rock in her tweet, alerting Johnson to his namesake’s plight.

Johnson promptly donated $1,500 towards Dwayne the dog’s care and later tweeted, “Lil’ guy was found w/ a wire on his jaw!? Love to find the person who did that. Happy to help.”

Shortly after, Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue’s fundraising goal was met. With Dwayne’s surgery a few weeks away, his caregivers hope that after the operation Dwayne will have a bright, long future ahead of him.
