Self-Defense App Arms Users With New Way To Thwart Off Potential Attackers

There are plenty of situations where people end up fearing for their safety. Sometimes it’s when walking to our cars alone at night. Other times, it can be feeling threatened by someone we know. What would you do in such a situation?

With usually only seconds to spare would you call 911? Attempt to defend yourself? It’s a difficult to know. But one company called OnCamera has developed a new phone app that they think could help ward off an attack. The idea is that a potential victim could use their mobile phone’s camera to call up a trained OnCamera officer, who would appear on their cell phone screen and intervene in the situation in real time while recording at the same time.

OnCamera says that their officers use GPS location and streaming video to connect users with emergency services and can interact in the situation.

The video below gives a demonstration of how the app, which is currently in beta works.

What do you think of this idea? Do you think it would be something you would use to protect yourself?
