Air Canada Pilot Diverts International Flight To Save A Dog

A pet owner is letting out a sigh of relief after his dog arrived safely at his final destination. That’s because the flight the dog was on was diverted in order to save his life.

The Air Canada plane was traveling from Tel Aviv to Toronto, but changed course to Frankfurt, Germany, to save Simba the French Bulldog after a heating system malfunctioned in the plane’s cargo area.

The pilot noticed the problem just before they were about to head over the Atlantic Ocean, where temperatures drop to below freezing. Knowing the malfunction would endanger his four-legged passenger, the captain changed course and landed the plane in Frankfurt where the 7-year-old dog was put onto another flight.

The delay tacked on an extra 75 minutes to the flight and approximately $10,000 in fuel costs, according to an aviation expert who spoke with City News.

Simba’s owner could not be more grateful for what the airline did. “It’s my dog, it’s like my child. It’s everything to me,” he said after they were reunited at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

I love how the captain and crew took responsibility for ALL the lives onboard!
