College student Casey Fischer was getting her morning coffee at Dunkin Donuts recently when she spotted a homeless man close by.

The man looked like he was picking up change on the side of the road before entering the shop. While he was counting his change, she decided to approach him ended up buying him a coffee, a bagel. She invited him to sit and talk with her. Although he wasn’t too talkative at first, the two ended up chatting for about an hour. “He told me a lot about how people are usually very mean to him because he’s homeless, how drugs turned him into the person he hated, he lost his mom to cancer, he never knew his dad and he just wants to be someone his mom would be proud of…”

Realizing she had to get back to class, they said their ‘goodbyes’ but before she left, the man named Chris asked her to wait and hastily scribbled down a note on the back of a receipt and handed it to her before he left.

Casey decided to her story on social media, and it’s since gone viral. She said in her post, “Chris was one of the most honest & sincere people I’ve ever met.”

It seems that that Casey and Chris’ chance encounter changed both their lives and it just goes to show how much a small gesture can have a huge impact on someone’s life.
