Dog With Special Way Of Eating Looking For A Forever Home

When a dog named Mickey first arrived at the Lethbridge and District Humane Society two years ago he weighed only 33 pounds. The 7-year-old dog had an undiagnosed health condition that was slowly starving him to death. The rescue organization discovered he couldn’t swallow food or water.

“His problem is with his esophagus, and it does not contract to push the food or water down, and so it’s very difficult for him to eat by himself,” Barb Grodicky at the humane society in Alberta, Canada, told CTV News.

It’s not megaesophagus; however it’s something similar. Vets aren’t completely sure with what he has, but he now has a special eating routine that helps him keep his food down. Mickey has a special bailey chair and is spoon fed a special mix of wet food, pumpkin puree and ground kibble. The routine takes around 15 minutes and can be pretty messy.

Mickey is a friendly, loving dog who would probably would have been adopted by now if it weren’t for his eating problem. Mickey’s diet can be expensive and messy, but the shelter hasn’t given up on finding him a home.

For anyone interested in giving this special dog a home contact the Lethbridge and District Humane Society.
