Man Recognizes 13-Year-Old Basset Hound At Shelter, Reunites With Her After 10 Years Apart

In a series of amazing coincidences, a Basset Hound named Ginger found her way back to Jamie Carpentier after 10 years apart!

After losing his dog, Jamie swore he didn’t want another one. But for whatever reason, he found himself visiting the Humane Society of Greater Nashua’s website for the first time and looking at the dogs available. While browsing their site he saw a photo of a 13-year-old Basset hound and was shocked. He read the name “Ginger” and the dog’s description and thought she looked familiar.

It turns out that 10 years earlier, Jamie had said goodbye to a dog named Ginger when he got a divorce. He didn’t know it, but his ex-wife had given up Ginger to a shelter in 2003 and the dog was adopted by an older couple. Ginger had a happy home for 10 years, but when the couple were no longer able to care for her, they gave her back to the Humane Society.

Being an older dog, Ginger faced a challenge in finding a new home. She spent 3 months in the shelter before Jamie saw her profile. Jaime was compelled to email the Humane Society and explained that he thought Ginger might be his dog from years earlier. When he arrived at the shelter, Ginger instantly knew him. She got up and walked right over to him and started kissing him on the cheek.

Jamie quickly changed his mind about never getting another dog and his family agreed he should adopt Ginger.

“She’s going to live with me ‘til the end,” Jamie told WMUR-TV. “I just want her to be happy and live a good dog life.”
