Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Michael Schoepf and some friends were off-roading in Riverside County, California when they found a dog down a mine shaft!
The shaft was “in the middle of no where by lake Mathews” and Michael said he “took a turn onto some random dirt road that led us to a mine shaft that was 200 feet deep.” He decided to investigate and, “As I’m looking down to see how deep it is I see something looking back at me. I take a closer look and it just so happen to be this beautiful red nose puppy.”

How the Pit Bull got there is anyone’s guess, but the group knew they couldn’t leave the dog stranded. “Needless to say we couldn’t just leave her to a certain death so we went back to the bonfire for anybody that had a long enough tow strap or rope to reach to the bottom,” Michael wrote on Facebook. “Ended up getting what we needed and then I climbed down and back up with “Corona” on my shoulders.”
It was dark out when Michael was lowered down the hole and a one of the rescuers caught the moment on a cellphone video. Michael pulled her up safely and she went home with him that night.
“So glad we stopped to check it out because now this beautiful pup gets a second chance at life,” Michael wrote. The next day he brought her to Happy Tails Animal Hospital in Garden Grove, where staff waived the fees after hearing what the Good Samaritans did to save her.

Other than a few bumps and bruises, the Pit Bull is in good condition and estimated to be around a year old. She was scanned and found to have an unregistered microchip linked to the Riverside shelter.

Michael said he is hoping to find her original owner, but if he can’t he’s already had several people say they want to adopt her.
