Landlord’s Unexpected Kindness Helps Homeless Single Mother Of Two

It’s not easy for Pearl Zambrano to look back on the days as homeless. Pearl is a single mother of two kids and with no job and no way to pay the bills she was feeling helpless and that she had nowhere to turn. But when she ran into her former landlord on her birthday the chance encounter would end up turning her life around.

Twenty-six-year-old Rafael Trevino told Pearl that she and her family could live in one of his empty apartments at no cost, but she had to promise to do one thing…she had to finish college and provide for her kids. Shocked she accepted. Although she offered to pay him back, Rafael has said no, “not to stress”.

Rafael attributes his humble ways to his late father who went out of his way to help people. “I grew up without my father… And I would hear all these stories of how he would go around helping people,” he said. Rafael works 16 hour days at times to make sure others aren’t in need.

In the video below, Pearl nominates Rafael to be the Pay it 4Ward recipient, a reward program offered by her local news station. Rafael thinks he’s coming to the apartment to fix Pearl’s front door, but instead he’s about to recognized for his kindness…
