Mr. Rogers Introduces A Young Boy In A Wheelchair, 20 Years Later That Boy Honors Him In Return

Every kid wanted to be Mister Rogers’ neighbor. Fred Rogers was a gentle, thoughtful children’s show host. He treated kids with respect and intelligence and introduced children to other children with differences, going out of his way to teach inclusion and goodness.

Jeff Erlanger was a guest on Rogers’ show in 1981. A quadriplegic from a young age following surgery for a spinal tumor, Jeff appeared on “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood” at age 10, but his friendship with Fred Rogers continued through the years. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house 20 years later when Jeff surprised Fred Rogers at a ceremony inducting Rogers into the TV Hall of Fame.

It’s hard not to be moved when you hear Rogers’ wise words about being neighborly when he accepts his honor.
