Firefighters do everything in their power to save lives, and that includes tiny critters too.
When a mobile home went up in flames in Lacey, Washington, firefighters rescued a family of pet hamsters suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fortunately, the firefighters knew what to do. “Yes. Our crews are trained and specially equipped to care for animals that have been rescued from a house fire,” Lacey Fire Department officials tweeted.
They had their “pet emergency pocket guides” on hand as well as specially-equipped pet oxygen devices in order to administer first aid.
The five rodents – Oreo, Madonna and their 3 babies – received oxygen with the special pet-oxygen kit. All but one survived (one of the babies died) thanks to the firefighters’ quick actions.
No life is too small! This is why it’s so important for fire departments to be equipped with supplies to help animals in emergencies!
