Courageous Young Mother Shares Her Experience With Domestic Violence To Help Others

Emma Murphy is a 26-year-old mother of two from Dublin, Ireland. She regularly blogs and shares posts about living healthy, but she was hiding a dark secret that she recently decided to reveal on Facebook. Emma had been in a three and half year relationship with an abusive ex-boyfriend and father to her children. She recently decided to share her experience with domestic violence and recorded a video in which she has a black eye.

Her story is now going viral and is a strong reminder to everyone that although her story is unique, the violence she went through is all to common. Emma explains that she thought deeply on whether or not she wanted to share her story publicly. But she opted to do so to help other women that may be in the same trouble she was in. In the video, she explains why she stayed with him so long and what gave her finally the courage to leave him and to realize that what was happening to her was unacceptable for her and for her children.

“He punched me in the face, and it wasn’t the first time,” she says. “Last year he split my head open at an event and prior to that he punched me as well and I had a black eye. And for the last year and a half, I’ve been told that I’m paranoid, I’m a psycho, I’m nuts, my insecurities will kill me one day.”

To be made to feel that the violence done to her was acceptable was even worse than the violence, she explains, but she knows that sharing her story is the right thing for her to do.

“I thought long and hard before posting this video, this is very difficult for me but I have to do what is RIGHT, if you or anyone you know is in a similar situation please share this video to inspire other women around the world, violence is NOT the answer!!!!”

It’s difficult to watch, but her message goes straight to the heart.
