Pit Bull Asks Firefighters To Help Her and Her Pup After Someone Slit Her Throat And Left Her To Die

When Dallas firefighters were called out to a house fire that they suspected was arson they were approached by a female Pit Bull desperately in need of help, but not because of the blaze.

After firefighters had extinguished the fire and were searching the home, the dog approached the firefighters asking for help.

They began petting her and saw that she had a puppy and then they noticed there was something wrong. The mother dog’s throat had been slashed!

The two cuts were deep and fresh. The firefighters immediately began treating her as they would a human and brought her back to their fire station and bandaged her up before she was taken to the veterinarian for surgery. She’s expected to make a full recovery.

In addition to her neck wound, mom is heart worm positive and has whip worms and hook worms and her puppy has round worms and possibly demodex mange.

Firefighters named the dog Khaleesi after the Game of Thrones character who rose alive from the flames. The two dogs are now in the loving and capable hands of DFW Rescue Me.

As of January 18, Little Joe is is a foster home and Khaleesi is still in hospital. DFW Rescue Me posted the following update on the mama and pup:

“While Khaleesi is still recovering at the hospital from the neck slashing, her puppy, Little Joe, has been moved into a foster home. He was completely shut down at the clinic and we wanted to begin his socialization and emotional recovery as soon as possible. This will also allow Khaleesi to move out of the “momma mode” and concentrate on herself.”

“Little Joe has demodex mange and just about every internal parasite possible. Those are being treated and we will work on putting some weight on this forgotten boy. Right now he is learning to live in a home, with all the sights and sounds that go with it.”

“Once he understands that the meals will be regular and the hands will be kind, we expect his recovery to speed along. His first day in the home was spent curled up in a ball. He is now following his foster mom from room to room and wagging his tail.”

The rescuers believe Little Joe will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. Meanwhile Khaleesi is doing well and getting “lots of attention from the clinic staff”.

Update May 18, 2018

As of May 18, 2018, Khaleesi is still available for adoption. DWF Rescue describes her as a “60 pound lap dog. Khaleesi will follow you from room to room and loves belly rubs.” They write, “For a dog with such a traumatic past, she just wants to give and receive love. Khaleesi has recently discovered plush toys. She will pounce on them and run around the house with it in her mouth. A sweet sight for a dog who has most likely never had a toy. This girl manages to charm everyone she meets. Khaleesi will need to be the only animal in the home. And you can spoil her forever.”

Update August 2019

Happy news! Khaleesi has found a forever home. “She was adopted and is a loved family member,” DFWR Rescue revealed.

I’m so pleased that Khaleesi and her puppy will be all right thanks to Dallas firefighters and DFW Rescue Me!
