It’s the last thing any family wants to learn. A caregiver hired to take care of a loved one, is, in fact, abusing them. Three years ago, Miriam Marino hired a woman to take care of her 94-year-old mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. However, she recently became suspicious of the carer after a neighbor warned her something wasn’t right.
So she installed a hidden CCTV camera at her mother’s apartment in Buenos Aires, Argentina to see what might be happening and what she witnessed, horrified her.
The hidden cameras caught the woman kicking, slapping and grabbing the elderly woman by the hair. Miriam has reportedly informed police of the abuse, but there has not been any news as to what action police have taken, although guessing from the video evidence I would imagine criminal charges will be laid.
Miriam also posted the disturbing footage to social media to warn others against employing this particular caregiver. The video also serves as a powerful reminder that elder abuse happens everywhere.
Just as one family discovered after their dog alerted their babysitter was abusing their child, so too, other families should be vigilant of elderly family members who may not be able to speak for themselves.
