An Arlington Police officer won the hearts of dog lovers on the Internet for going “the extra mile” to rescue a Pit Bull on the loose. Sgt. Gary Carter responded to an alarm call from North Arlington, Texas, and while on the call was told by a few concerned citizens that they were being followed by an “aggressive” Pit Bull. Arlington Police Department wrote:
“Sgt. Carter immediately started interacting with the dog and determined it was extremely friendly. He was able to coax the furry friend into the patrol car so we can try and locate the owner. The poor dog appeared to be lost and thirsty.”
Sgt. Carter and other Arlington officers have undergone training for how to deal with aggressive animals, reported News 8. Carter recognized the dog was showing signs of dehydration and he and his partner managed to lure the dog into the back of a patrol car using a protein bar.
Prior to becoming a cop, Sgt. Carter rode bulls for a living, so he said he knows a thing or two about big, aggressive animals.
“He’s not a mean dog,” Sgt. Carter said. “Somebody loves him.”
The police department’s Facebook post about Sgt. Carter’s rescue went instantly viral with over 500,000 shares! And by the next morning Animal Services had located the dog’s owner. Jeffery was micro-chipped and his owner, Antonio, was very relieved to reunite with his newly-adopted dog.
Antonio said he had been looking for Jeffery for two days and had just adopted Jeffery from a Grand Prairie shelter only a week ago. He takes him to work with him at a garage, but Jeffery managed to slip away. Antonio told News 8 that Jeffery isn’t a guard dog, he has a Chihuahua for that. He met with Sgt. Carter, who was happy to meet Antonio and wished him well with Jeffery.
