During a raid on a North Carolina puppy mill, The Humane Society of the United States found Billy, a Chihuahua who had been living in a cramped cage in terrible conditions for years. He had been stuck in a cage so long that it had rusted shut.
“[W]hen I got this little guy out, he laid his head on my shoulder, and at that moment I felt responsible for him, said Billy’s rescuer, Adam Parascandola. “And I felt responsible for making sure he was never going to have to suffer like that again.”

Billy passed away Christmas 2012. HSUS announced, “With heavy hearts, we report that Billy unexpectedly passed away over the holidays. Life in a puppy mill wrecked his body, and in the end he succumbed to complications stemming from years of untreated medical conditions.”
