Librarian Bends Pages Of Antique Book And Reveals Hidden Painting

People may not know it, but many university libraries have rare book collections. They are a treasure trove of antique books and rare manuscripts, some of which are centuries old. In this video, a librarian at Cornell University Library shows off one of their rare books that has a painting hidden in the gilt edges of the pages! This type of book illustration is called a fore-edge painting and can be found in books dating back to the 10th century, and became very popular in the 19th century.
