It’s a challenge for 11-year-old Bella Burton to get around because she has a rare genetic condition called Morquio Syndrome that affects her bones. She would normally need crutches or a wheelchair to get around, if it were not for her new best friend and service dog, George. George is a Great Dane and at 131 pounds he’s strong enough to have Bella (who weighs 43 pounds) lean on him to get around.
George helps her go around school, go to the gym and enjoy activities she would struggle with if she had to use crutches. But he’s much more to her than a “crutch”, he gives her a sense of freedom and friendship that’s wonderful to see!
