Foster Mom’s Heart Full as Fearful Dog Blossoms Into the ‘Absolute Best’
When Kristin Erwin first spotted Roz, the dog looked lost and hungry, wandering along a rural Texas road. The thin farm dog approached her car, whining as if asking for help. When no microchip or owner was found, Kristin began fostering her just as she has with countless other dogs in her role as president of the Streethearts Project Inc. Roz was afraid of many things, but she soon began to reveal her gentle nature.

Erwin wrote, “Roz is a special girl but I’ll admit, it started off a little rocky when we first got her home. She was afraid to come inside, afraid of the leash, afraid of the kennel, afraid of car rides, no food motivation.”
Over the next three months, Roz blossomed into the sweetest dog. Soon she was giving the best hugs, playing with all the other foster dogs (big or small), and being silly with her treats. Eventually, it was time to say goodbye. Roz was adopted and now has a happy home. “Time was all she needed to show us she was the absolute best dog,” said Erwin.

Letting go of some foster dogs is hard for Erwin, and so it was with Roz. But she knows it’s necessary if she’s going to continue helping others. She wrote, “If we’re going to keep making a difference, we have to let them go. We’ve been fostering for 10+ years and some goodbyes are still tough. Being the bridge between despair and hope is truly bittersweet.”
Now, seeing Roz thrive with her new family and her new canine and human siblings, Erwin says simply, “My heart is full.”
