Crow Rescued as a Baby Surprises Rehabilitator With an Uncanny Talent To Talk

Meet Jimini Crowket, an American crow who can talk! Jimini was rescued by Margie Hanrahan in the spring of 2010 after he was illegally taken from the wild as a young fledgling. (Fledgling crows are often found on the ground before they can fly and are mistakenly thought to be injured.) Because Jimini was raised by humans, he lost his natural fear of people and animals, and couldn’t be release back into the wild.

Hanrahan, a volunteer licensed wildlife rehabilitator with Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center, had a difficult decision: humanely euthanize Jimini or license him for educational outreach. She chose the latter, and Jimini is now a licensed animal ambassador.

He’s also developed an extraordinary talent—he can talk! Hanrahan was training her pet parrot when Jimini unexpectedly joined in, astonishing her with his mimicry. His favorite phrases include:
“Hello,” “How are you?” “What’s up?” “I know, right,” “Bye-bye,” and “I love you.” He also says “Henry” (the name of Hanrahan’s dog) and “Let’s go.”

In an interview with Spectrum News, Hanrahan described Jimini as behaving like a “precocious 2-year-old.” She recalled one time he mischievously lined up dog food on top of the freezer door, so it would fall on people when they opened it.

Jimini now has a social media following in the millions, where Hanrahan shares videos of his antics—and, of course, his talking talents.
