Rescuers Tried To Save Dog During A Flood, But He Refused To Move

A dog named Druzhok displayed amazing loyalty after he was discovered standing on guard outside of his family’s flooded-ravaged home!

The Andreev family and the 4-year-old Caucasian Shepherd mix had to evacuate their home after a flood hit Eastern Russia in 2013.

The Andreevs were just one family among of tens of thousands affected by the high flood waters. They went to stay with relatives in an apartment but Druzhok, which means “Little Friend” in Russian, could not stay indoors at the temporary home, and on the third day he disappeared.

His family went looking for him in an inflatable boat and found him at the doorstep of their submerged home. He was sitting on the top step, his body half submerged in the water.

Rescue workers told them that Druzhok would not let anyone near their home and that he refused to budge from the front door. But the moment he saw his family in the boat, he swam over to them.

“It’s deep here. He couldn’t run, he had to swim. The dog stood on the top step of the porch in the cold water all night,” Druzhok’s mom Elana told the Siberian Times. “We sailed into the yard and saw him. He was standing there and trembling, and wouldn’t move away from his place. But when he saw us he was so happy. We took him into the boat and he rushed to lick us. We all were so happy.”

Once he was safely back with his family, they knew they could not to leave him alone again and arranged to stay with friends where Druzhok could stay inside with them.

Thank goodness they were all reunited. I hope the family returned home soon after.
